SR 434 Pedestrian Underpass

Owner/Location: Seminole County

Horizon served as Prime Engineer of Record for the design of a 220 feet Pedestrian Underpass and 0.25 miles of a 14 foot wide Multi-Use Trail to provide a grade separated crossing of State Road 434. The trail was designed to go beneath SR434 at the Wekiva Springs Road due to the heavy congestion of the roadways and the potential visual impacts to the surrounding businesses.  Project included a preliminary engineering phase to analyze various alignment and crossings. The design included a complicated four phase maintenance of traffic plan to allow open cut and sequential construction of the underpass.  The project was a LAP (Local Area Project) with the Department of Transportation - District Five.  Close coordination and approvals were required by FDOT along with several public involvement meetings to gain public input.
