I-95 & JT Butler BLVD Interchange

This project features the hybrid system to system reconfiguration of the I-95 interchange with J.T. Butler Blvd & Belfort Road. Includes 2 miles of concrete widening along I-95, 1 mile of asphalt widening and reconstruction along J.T. Butler Blvd, 8 ramp reconfigurations. Five new bridges are part of the project, including a 3rd level 1400’ curved concrete U-Girder flyover bridge, 3 new I-95 Mainline bridges and a grade separated braided ramp bridge at Belfort Road and J.T. Butler. Project also includes a combination of high mast and conventional lighting, ITS including three new DMS structures, 4 signalized intersections, 16 overhead sign structures, 135,000 sf of MSE wall, 3500ft of sound walls, 6 new storm water ponds, permitting, and utility relocations.

SR 44 Roundabout at Grand Avenue

Horizon was the lead design firm for the this low - bid (Design Build) project that includes design and construction of a roundabout on SR 44 at Grand Avenue in Volusia County. Improvements include the design and construction of roadway, channelization islands, drainage system, sidewalks, signing and pavement markings, lighting and landscaping.


Red Bug Lake Road Pedestrian Overpass

127 LF Pedestrian overpass that spans Red Bug Lake Road at Red Bug Elementary School. This project consists of a single span bridge crossing Red Bug Road utilizing a custom prestressed inverted-T beam that supports the deck slab near the bottom flange of the beam. The bridge has decorative architectural features including an architectural reveal to mimic features of the school as well as pier columns topped with decorative obelisks.  


DESIGN - BUILD PROJECTS

408/417 Interchange

Horizon Engineering served as the prime design consultant for the design build portion of the project. This project features the final phase of the ultimate 408/417 Interchange and includes 4 ramp reconfigurations, 2 new flyover bridges (design by others), MOT, conventional lighting, ITS upgrades, overhead sign structures, MSE walls, and 1 new storm water pond.


SR 44 Grade Separation

Horizon was the lead design firm for the 4-lane divided roadway, drainage design, permitting, traffic control plans, and numerous utility relocations. Horizon managed the environmental activities and the design of the MSE Walls, of a 528’ - 5 span, 4-lane divided bridge structure over the CSX railroad in Wildwood, Florida. 


SR 35 Grade Separation/Bridge Replacement

Horizon was the lead design firm for the design and construction of a 418’ - 3 span, 4 lane divided bridge structure over the CSX railroad in Wildwood, Florida.  The project included the design of 4 lane divided roadway approaches, 3 retention facilities, numerous utility relocations, coordination with CSX Railroad, and environmental activities associated with gopher tortoise relocations.

Colonial Pedestrian Overpass

Project consists of the design of a signature pedestrian overpass and associated approach ramps to span over Colonial Drive (SR  50) and the Central Florida Commuter Rail (SunRail) to provide bicycle and pedestrian connectivity between the Gertrude’s Walk and Dinky Line segments of the Orlando Urban Trail. Project included a stairway for direct connection to Colonial Drive and ADA ramps for connections to Concord Ave, Colonial Ave and Orange Ave. The design provided a street plaza area with amenities, pedestrian safety lighting and aesthetic lighting for the main 80’ tall pylon and the ramp piers.

SR 35 (Baseline Rd)

Horizon was the lead design firm for the widening and reconstruction of 5.7 miles of a rural 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided urban roadway. Project included 9 stormwater retention facilities, 2 new bridge crossings (4 total structures) to serve as wildlife crossings, 2000 LF of sound walls, and environmental activities associated with gopher tortoise relocations and cogon grass remediation.
