FDOT District Two announces that Horizon Engineering Group, in conjunction with Anderson Columbia Construction have been awarded the $59.5 million dollar contract to widen SR 200 in Duval and Nassau Counties.  This project combined three design projects for a total project length of 17.5 miles.  The project includes 14 new bridges, 17 retention ponds, and 17.5 miles of widening the existing 2 lane rural roadway to a 4-lane divided rural facility.  The final right of way and design parameters were based on the roadway becoming a limited access facility upon completion.

FDOT District Five announces that Horizon Engineering Group, in conjunction with Ranger Construction Industries, have been awarded the $25.8 million dollar contract to improve the Interchange at SR 46 and I-4.  The improvements include adding a loop ramp (on-ramp) and modifying the off-ramp in the northwest quadrant, adding a collector / distributor roadway for 3.5 miles adjacent to I-4, and milling and resurfacing 3.5 miles of I-4.  Other major features include completely replacing the westbound signage for 4 miles along I-4, completely replacing and updating the ITS infrastructure for  5 miles along I-4, and adding 2 new "state of the art"  DMS signs.

Horizon has been selected by FDOT District Five for the design of SR 40 in Marion County.  This is a significant project in that it has national attention due to its designation as a "National Scenic Highway" as well as being designated as a Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway by the State of Florida.  The design includes widening the roadway from its existing 2-lane configuration to a 4-lane divided roadway.  It crosses the Ocklawaha River and will include the design of two parallel 2740' long bridges.  Because of its vicinity within the Ocala National forest, the design will also include state of the art wildlife crossings including a 100 foot bridge structure, two 50 foot bridge structures, five box culverts, and 5 pipe crossings to accomodate the wildlife.

Horizon, as a Team member of the architectural firm of Rhodes + Brito, will be providing professional civil engineering services on the $20 million dollar renovation and addition project at Lancaster Elementary School in OrangeCounty  Florida. Company vice president Scott Seck stated "The company is very excited to be working with Rhodes + Brito again as well as the Orange County Public Schools as we move forward with improving the education system in Central Florida".

Horizon, as a Team member of the Southland Construction Company, has been awarded the Red Bug Lake Road Pedestrian Overpass Design Build Project by Seminole County Florida.  This unique project will allow for the safe crossing of elementary school students to cross the busy Red Bug Lake Roadway to Red Bug Lake Elementary School as well as providing a safe crossing to the Red Bug Lake sports complex.

Horizon has been selected by FDOT District Seven for the design of SR 44 in Citrus County.  The 6.1 mile project will include widening, milling and resurfacing, as well as adding pedestrian features including sidewalks adjacent to the roadway.  Company Vice President and Project Manager Scott Seck stated " District Seven has been very supportive of Horizon over the past several years and we (Horizon) will continue to strive to deliver a quality product to the District while producing cost efficient designs".

Horizon, in conjunction with CW Roberts Contracting, have been awarded the $23.5 million dollar SR35 (Baseline Road) Design Build widening project from the Florida Department of Transportation.  This 6 mile project includes widening the existing 2 lane rural roadway to a 4 lane divided urban facility.  It also includes two wildlife bridge crossings and sound walls.   The project is part of the Federal Stimulus Program that is being implemented by the Department.  Company President Jerry Warren stated "This project will be a challenge to complete within the 640 construction days proposed due to the amount of utilities being impacted.  It will truly be a Team effort between CW Roberts and the Utility Company's to make this a successful project."

Horizon, in conjunction with CW Roberts Contracting, have been awarded the $25.4 million dollar CSX Overpass Design Build Projects on SR44 and SR35 by the Florida Department of Transportation - District Five.  Company owner Jerry Warren stated "The company has made a major step towards becoming a major player in Design Build projects.  We look forward to working with CW Roberts and providing a quality product to the Florida Department of Transportation."

Horizon, as a Team member of the architectural firm of Rhodes + Brito, will be providing professional civil engineering services on the $28 million renovation and addition project at Walker Middle School in Orlando.

Construction is complete on the $11.4 million Shenandoah Elementary School Renovation & Addition.  Horizon, as a Team member of the architectural firm of Rhodes + Brito, provided civil engineering services on this OCPS comprehensive project.

Horizon was selected today to provided civil engineering design services to Rhodes+Brito Architects on the Rosemont and Southwood Elementary Schools renovation and addition projects.  "We are delighted to have Horizon work with us on another school project," stated Jennifer Seck, Director of Business Development at Rhodes+Brito, "the Horizon team has done an excellent job for us in the past, and we look forward to delivering OCPS with another well designed school."

Horizon Engineering Group celebrated it's fifth anniversary today!  "We are delighted to have reached this milestone," reported company owner Jerry Warren, P.E. "My partners and I established this company with the desire to provide quality design services to Central Florida clients, we are pleased the firm has successfully accomplished this."  Partner Pete Manz agreed with this statement by adding "We've been fortunate to have good chemistry between the owners, and our staff.  People make the difference, and we sure have a great team!"

Peter E. Manz, Vice President of Horizon Engineering Group, has been awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" Award at the Central Florida Engineers Week Banquet.  This prestigous award is presented to engineers that have excelled in their careers as mentors as well as their contributions to the engineering field.  Mr. Manz was nominated by the American Society of Civil Engineers Central Florida Branch.

Horizon was awarded the "Outstanding Small Organization of the Year" award (for companies with 100 employees or less) at the 2008 Central  Florida Engineer's Week Banquet.  Horizon was nominated by the Central Florida Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
